ciaradiallo (Alumni) California is one of the most restrictive states for international medical grads. The Medical Board of California has a list of approved foreign medical schools and getting licensed there requires your school to be on it.
bmohammed (Alumni) Building on what ciaradiallo (Alumni) mentioned. From what I've been able to find CAHSU is not on California's approved list. That means a CAHSU grad may not be able to get licensed in California regardless of USMLE scores.
dandre (Alumni) Agree with ciaradiallo (Alumni) on this. If California is where you plan to practice this is a non-negotiable factor in your school choice. Don't choose a school hoping the list will change by the time you graduate.
alexis_crawford (Alumni) Different experience than bmohammed (Alumni) though. This is exactly the kind of research you need to do before committing to any Caribbean school. State licensing requirements aren't the same everywhere and the restrictions catch people off guard after graduation.
hallm (Student) Other states are less restrictive. New York, Texas, and Florida all have larger IMG physician communities and more manageable licensing requirements. If you have flexibility those might be better targets.
lisa.menon (Student) Call the California Medical Board directly and ask about CAHSU's status. Get the answer in writing. Don't rely on what the school tells you or what you read on a forum.
