Each of Charles University's five medical faculties operates somewhat independently with its own clinical affiliations and culture. This thread helps prospective students understand the differences between the faculties and which one tends to offer the best experience for international students studying in English.

Ok so I'm applying to Charles and I just found out there's like FIVE different medical faculties and they all seem Kinda separate?? like 1st faculty in Prague, 2nd faculty in Prague, 3rd faculty in Prague, then Plzen and Hradec Kralove. nobody told me this when I was googling "Charles University medicine" lol. for someone doing the English program, does it matter which one I pick, or are they all basically the same just in different buildings? trying to figure out where to even start

they are NOT all the same lol, each faculty kinda runs its own show, different teaching hospitals, different vibe, sometimes even different exam styles for the same subject. i went with Plzen and honestly i think its underrated for English program students, smaller city so its way cheaper to live, the international cohort here is tight knit, and the teaching hospital is solid. its not as flashy as "PRAGUE" sounding but tbh location wise its still close to Prague if you want to visit

1st faculty (Prague) is the oldest and biggest one and honestly has the most established English program with the longest track record of international grads. if "well known name recognition" matters to you even a little, 1st faculty is the one most people have actually heard of. clinical placements are at some of the biggest hospitals in Prague too which is nice for variety

gonna be the contrarian here and say Hradec Kralove is actually really good if you want a more personal experience. its a smaller city, smaller class sizes, and i feel like the profs actually know who you are instead of being one of 300 faces. teaching hospital here is solid too. its just less "exciting city" than Prague if thats a factor for you
