England or US clinicals?

US rotations are generally the stronger play if you're planning to match in the US. Program directors know the hospital systems and the LOR format makes sense to them.

UK rotations have genuine clinical value especially for surgical training in some specialties. But LORs from UK consultants are harder to use for US match purposes.

isaiahc makes a fair point but my experience was a bit different. If global health or an international career is your actual goal the UK experience is worth it. If you want to practice in the US, prioritize getting rotations there where your face becomes recognizable.

Some students do a mix. Core rotations in the US and a couple of electives in the UK. That gives you the CV line without sacrificing the US relationship building.

I did all my rotations in the US and I'm glad I did. The letters I got from attendings at hospitals that residency programs actually knew made a real difference during interviews.

Talk to your school's clinical office about this because it affects rotation credit and ECFMG timelines too. It's not just a personal preference question, there are real logistical factors.
