How do I do this well and professionally?

OB/GYN is intense and deeply rewarding, and the professionalism bar is especially high because of the sensitive, intimate nature of the care. Lead with respect, consent, and clear communication, always explain what you're doing, always ensure a chaperone is present for sensitive exams, and always read the patient's comfort. On content, know the basics of antenatal care (the schedule, what's checked when), normal labor stages, and common gynecological conditions. The labor room is fast, emotional, and unforgettable, stay calm, be useful, and respect that you're witnessing one of the most significant moments of someone's life. Manage your own discomfort privately and professionally; the patient's experience comes first, always. Approach it with maturity and you'll find it one of the most meaningful rotations.
