PUMS introduced an English-language MD program in 1993 based on the American curriculum and USMLE requirements, how well does that curriculum actually prepare you for USMLE Step 1?

Been looking at PUMS for a while now and the whole "based on American curriculum since 1993" thing sounds great on paper but I want to know what it actually means in practice. Like do they teach straight from US textbooks, do they have dedicated step 1 prep built into the schedule, or is it more like a European curriculum with some USMLE topics sprinkled in. Anyone here a current student or grad who can speak to this honestly?

current 4th year here. so basic sciences years are honestly pretty similar to what AUC and Ross use, lot of the same textbooks like Costanzo for physio, BRS pharm etc. profs do reference USMLE style questions in lectures sometimes but it's not like every single lecture is framed around boards. you still gotta do a lot of self study with UWorld and stuff on your own time.

is there a dedicated step 1 dean or office that tracks your progress like the US schools do? asking because that support system seems to matter a lot for actually passing on first attempt

marcusgrant7321 (Aspiring student) not really a formal "step 1 dean" like you'd see at like a US allopathic school but there are academic advisors you can go to. honestly most of the accountability is on you. some of my friends did self structured dedicated periods of like 8-10 weeks before sitting the exam and that's pretty standard here

From what I've seen, the curriculum gives a solid foundation because it's designed around the American system, but passing Step 1 still depends a lot on your own prep. Most students end up using resources like UWorld, First Aid, and Pathoma alongside their classes. If you're consistent, the curriculum puts you in a good position, but it isn't a substitute for dedicated USMLE study.
