The 4-year program is designed for pre-med graduates from the US and Canada while the 6-year program is for school leavers following the European model. This thread explains the differences in admission requirements, curriculum structure, and which route leads to better outcomes for students with different career destinations in mind.

So, I just graduated with my bio degree in the US and now I'm stuck deciding between these two tracks at PUMS. On paper the 4 year sounds perfect since I already did my undergrad, but I keep seeing people say the 6-year track is actually the "real" European MD and might be viewed differently. Can someone break down the actual differences besides just the length? Like is the 4 years basically a watered-down version.

I'm in the 4 year program right now, 3rd year. it's not watered down, its literally compressed because you already did your pre med requirements as an undergrad so they skip a lot of the general science stuff the 6 year kids do in their first 1-2 years. by the time we hit clinicals both tracks merge into basically the same curriculum

yeah that's right, I'm in 6 year track. our first two years are basically like undergrad level bio chem physics etc combined with med school basics, its for students coming straight out of high school in europe who didnt do a bachelors first. by year 3 onwards we are in the same lecture halls as the 4 year folks

ok that makes sense actually. so for someone like me with a us bachelors already, doing the 6 year would basically mean repeating stuff I already learned in undergrad right? seems like a waste of time and money tbh
