About ValueMD

ValueMD is an online community for people taking the international route into medicine. Students, graduates and applicants from Caribbean, European and other offshore medical schools come here to ask questions, share what they’ve been through, and help the people coming up behind them.

The questions brochures don’t answer
Q. How did basic sciences actually feel?
Q. How were clinical rotations arranged?
Q. How long did the paperwork take?
Q. Did graduates match where they hoped?
Community since2003

  • FMGE

Who we are

The other side of the brochure

Picking a medical school outside your home country is a big decision, and a lot of it rests on information that’s hard to find. Brochures and school websites tell you the official version. What applicants usually want is the other version: how basic sciences actually felt, how clinical rotations were arranged, how long the paperwork took, and whether graduates matched where they hoped.

That is the gap ValueMD fills. Our members are people who have sat in those lecture halls, written those exams and gone through the match. They post under their own usernames, answer each other’s questions, and disagree openly when their experiences differ. We think that mix of voices gives a fairer picture than any single source can.

Our story

From one discussion board
to a global community

ValueMD started at a time when there were few places online to compare notes about offshore medical education.

2003

Where it began

A discussion board for students at Caribbean medical schools.

02

Beyond the Caribbean

Over the years it grew to cover medical schools in Europe and elsewhere.

03

Beyond med school

Licensing exams in several countries, and the long road from enrolment to residency.

Now

Today

The forums plus guides and blog posts for international medical students, with active communities on Reddit and YouTube.

What you’ll find

Our principles

How we keep the community useful

Open discussion only works when readers can trust what they’re reading.

Independent

ValueMD is not owned by any medical school, and schools cannot pay to remove honest reviews or criticism from the forums.

Moderated, not censored

Moderators remove spam, personal attacks, fake reviews and posts that share other people’s private information. They don’t remove posts just because a school or a member disagrees with them. When a thread turns into an argument, we’d rather leave both sides up and let readers judge.

Checked against official sources

Guides on our resource pages are checked against official sources such as ECFMG, the GMC, the National Medical Commission and individual school websites. Rules change often, so each guide shows when it was last reviewed. Always confirm details with the official body before you make a decision.

Experiences, not advice

Forum posts are personal experiences and opinions, not professional advice. One student’s semester at a school can look very different from another’s, so read widely and look for patterns across many posts.
